With its edgy yet graceful lines, the world’s greatest air superiority fighter of all time took to the skies in July 1972 and changed the history of aerial combat and the meaning of air supremacy forever. The F-15 combines superb aerodynamics with unparalleled acceleration, along with advanced avionics and aerial weaponry, making it a formidable aerial adversary. However, getting to this point was not an overnight accomplishment.
F-15 at War tells the story of how the F-15 helped the U.S. maintain its reputation for air superiority, including how the Eagle became America’s frontline fighter at the height of the Cold War, always at the ready at American air bases around the world. The Eagle’s combat record proved its ferocity in the field not only with the U.S. Air Force, but with the air forces of allied countries. More recently, F-15C Eagles and F-15E Strike Eagles maintained America’s air supremacy in the Middle East, helping bring democracy to Afghanistan and Iraq and earning a place in the history books as the most successful modern-day jet fighter ever built.
Featuring the spectacular aerial photography of author Tyson V. Rininger, F-15 Eagle at War covers the design and manufacture of the airframe, its service in various conflicts, and its myriad models and variants. It is a fitting and thoroughly fascinating tribute to this celebrated aircraft and icon of the U.S. Air Force.
